How to play Exploding Kittens Party Pack (2026) — the bigger-table edition of the draw-pile Russian-roulette classic. Same fluffy murder cats, built for 2–10 players instead of the Original’s 2–5 ceiling.
This page is Party Pack–specific: setup for larger groups, what changes vs Original, turn flow, and when to add expansions. Full classic rules deep-dive: Exploding Kittens how-to. Related: Curse You! · Imploding Kittens.
Grab Exploding Kittens Party Pack
Primary Party Pack for 2–10. Alts: Original for small tables, NSFW for 17+ chaos, Imploding as the add-later expansion.
- Primary: Exploding Kittens Party Pack → Amazon — 2–10 players, louder living-room nights
- Also great: Exploding Kittens Original → Amazon — classic 2–5 deck
- Also great: Exploding Kittens NSFW → Amazon — adult art / 17+ table
- Add later: Imploding Kittens expansion → Amazon — stacks on a base EK deck
What Party Pack is (and isn’t)
Party Pack is still Exploding Kittens: draw cards, play actions, try not to draw an Exploding Kitten without a Defuse. The edition upgrade is player count and card volume — more Exploding Kittens, more Defuses, and enough filler/action cards so 6–10 people aren’t fighting over a too-thin deck.
- Ages: 7+ (family-friendly art — NSFW is a different box)
- Players: 2–10 (this is the reason to buy Party Pack)
- Time: ~15 minutes per round; longer with big tables and trash talk
- Win: be the last player who hasn’t exploded
Party Pack vs Original (quick buyer map)
| Axis | Original | Party Pack |
|---|---|---|
| Players | 2–5 | 2–10 |
| Best for | Couples, roommates, small game night | Family reunions, dorm floors, bigger parties |
| Deck feel | Tight, tense | Bigger pile, more Exploding Kittens in play |
| Buy if… | You rarely host more than five | Six+ people show up often |
Owning both is optional flex, not required. If you already know Original and just need the bigger SKU, Party Pack is the cart. Buyer compare deep-dive stays on the vs page when you want edition shopping — rules for a turn live here + the core how-to.
Setup (Party Pack table)
- Shuffle the full Party Pack deck after removing any insert cards you’re told to set aside (follow the printed insert for exact starter counts).
- Deal starting hands per the insert — typically each player gets cards that include a Defuse, then the rest of the hand from the shuffled pile (confirm against your box insert; editions print the exact numbers).
- Insert the correct number of Exploding Kittens into the draw pile for your player count (one fewer than the number of players is the classic pattern — again, match your insert).
- Place the draw pile face-down in the center. Leave space for a discard pile.
- Pick a starting player (last person who pet a real cat / shortest name / whatever). Play proceeds clockwise unless a card says otherwise.
Host tip: with 8–10 players, announce “no table talk about top-deck peeks” if you want cleaner tension — or lean into the chaos. Agree before the first draw.
How to play (one turn)
- Play optional action cards from your hand (Skip, Attack, Favor, Shuffle, See the Future, etc. — names match your deck art).
- End your turn by drawing the top card of the draw pile into your hand — unless a played card already ended your turn without drawing.
- If you draw an Exploding Kitten and you have a Defuse, play the Defuse, then secretly put the Kitten back into the draw pile anywhere. If you don’t have a Defuse, you’re out.
- Last player still alive wins the round. Rematch by reshuffling with the same player count rules.
Key card types you’ll see
- Exploding Kitten — death unless Defused
- Defuse — your get-out-of-explode card; insert Kitten back strategically
- Nope — cancel another player’s action card (timing arguments are traditional)
- Attack / Skip — dump turn pressure onto the next player or skip your draw
- See the Future / Shuffle — information and pile chaos
- Favor / combo pairs — steal or demand cards per your insert
Party Pack doesn’t invent a new win condition — it scales the same heart-attack draw into a louder room. Teach new players with a short demo hand before the “real” pile if the table includes kids + grandparents.
Common mistakes at big tables
- Wrong Exploding Kitten count — too many = instant wipeouts; too few = snoozy pile. Match player count to the insert.
- Forgetting Defuses in starting hands — classic setup miss; check before the first draw.
- Table talk spoiling See the Future — decide if peek info is private or public.
- Playing NSFW rules with a family box — Party Pack is the family/party SKU; NSFW is separate.
- Adding Imploding mid-teach — master Party Pack base first; expansion later.
When to play Party Pack
- Holiday living rooms with mixed ages (7+ art)
- Dorm / apartment nights where six friends always appear
- Warm-up before a longer strategy game
- Anytime Original’s 5-player cap keeps cutting someone out
FAQ
Do I need Original if I buy Party Pack?
No. Party Pack is a standalone bigger edition. Original is better only if you want the smaller, cheaper 2–5 kit.
Can I mix Party Pack with Imploding Kittens?
Yes — Imploding is an expansion that stacks on a base Exploding Kittens deck. Read the Imploding insert, and see our Imploding how-to after one clean Party Pack night.
Is Party Pack the same as Curse You! or Rage Mode?
No. Curse You! and other specialty editions change components and vibes. Party Pack is the “more players, same core loop” SKU.
