What Farkle is
Farkle (also called Zilch / 10000 in some houses) is a six-dice press-your-luck game. Each turn you roll, set aside scoring dice, and choose to bank or risk another roll with the remaining dice. Roll no scoring dice and you Farkle — lose the turn’s unbanked points.
Common scoring (post your sheet)
- Single 1 = 100; single 5 = 50.
- Three-of-a-kind often scores face×100 (three 2s = 200) with three 1s often 1000 — confirm sheet.
- Four/five/six of a kind escalate; straight / three pair extras appear on many sheets.
- Hot dice: if all six dice score, bank them temporarily and roll all six again.
Turn flow
- Roll all six (or remaining) dice.
- Set aside at least one scoring die/combo.
- Bank and end turn — or roll remaining dice.
- Farkle = zero for the turn; next player.
- Race to a target (often 10,000). Opening threshold rules vary.
Beginner tips
- Bank early while learning; greed is the tutor.
- Post the score sheet — do not memorize mid-beer.
- Agree hot-dice and opening-threshold before round one.
Common mistakes
- Mixing two score sheets at one table.
- Forgetting hot dice resets.
- No target score posted.
