Liar’s Dice night — grab list
Liar’s Dice needs cups + five dice per player. Lead with Yahtzee as the honest dice cousin, Do or Drink when the room wants dare prompts, and Flip 7 for a non-bluff encore.
- Dice cousin: Yahtzee → Amazon — no-bluff scoring for mixed ages
- Dare lane: Do or Drink → Amazon — adult prompt energy after bidding
- Encore: Flip 7 → Amazon — press-your-luck without cups
What Liar’s Dice is
Each player hides five dice under a cup, rolls privately, then players bid clockwise on how many dice of a face value exist among all players. You can raise the bid or challenge (“liar”). On a challenge, all dice are revealed. If the bid is wrong, the bidder loses a die (or drink stake in adult houses). Last player with dice wins.
Setup
- 2–6+ players; five dice + opaque cup each.
- Agree: ones wild or ones natural; table stakes alcohol-optional.
- Post bid language: “two 4s,” then “three 4s,” or face raises.
Bidding
- A bid states quantity + face (e.g., three 5s).
- Raises usually increase quantity, or same quantity with higher face — post the exact raise ladder.
- Ones-as-wild: ones count as the bid face for totals (house variant).
Challenges
When you challenge, everyone lifts cups. Count matching faces (plus wilds if used). If total ≥ bid, challenger loses a die; if total < bid, bidder loses a die. Player who loses a die often starts the next round.
Bluff tips
- Track likely totals from your cup + probability.
- Early overbids punish new players — teach gently round one.
- Never require alcohol; chips or candy stakes work.
Common mistakes
- No posted raise ladder → mid-game rules fights.
- Peeking under cups.
- Forcing drinks on challenges.
